ELECTION RESULTS
Seven candidates volunteered to stand for election for five open positions on the MIRCC Board of Directors. Mailed-in and hand-delivered ballots were opened and counted at the Annual Meeting of Property Owners on May 3rd. Mark Haenlein, Gary Johnson, Don Larsen, Dave MacFarlane and Earl Van Buskirk were elected to serve three-year terms.
FOUR OFFICERS ELECTED
Immediately following the May 3rd meeting of property owners the new Board of Directors met to elect four corporate officers for this year. President Mark Bollman will serve with Vice President Earl Van Buskirk, Treasurer Phil Reichel, and Secretary Mark Haenlein. The Executive Committee is focused on funding and constructing the Canyon Falls bridge to ensure access for all property owners and is committed to promoting an atmosphere of civility and professionalism.
ASSESSMENTS DUE MAY 31
Regular & Special Assessments are due May 31st. Invoices were mailed in April to 460 property owners; members upstream of the Sunset Falls mud slide were also assessed their share of the $100,000 Special Assessment goal to begin restoring access for 250 properties. Approximately half of the Special Assessment funds have already been received. Past-due accounts are charged interest each month beginning June 1.
MIRCC TO PARTNER WITH PUBLIC UTILITY DISTRICT
After repeated efforts to restore access through an ongoing mud slide at Sunset Falls the MIRCC Board of Directors voted unanimously on April 5th to accept an offer from Snohomish County PUD to establish a partnership to install a bridge over Canyon Falls. PUD commissioners voted unanimously on May 6th to approve the $250,000 cost-sharing agreement. This partnership supported by Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management will enable PUD to maintain power lines in the community and provide emergency access for 
Snohomish County Sheriff and Fire District 28 first responders as well.
CANYON FALLS BRIDGE ORDERED
A single-lane 160-foot steel bridge kit has been ordered from Acrow Bridge Company. The contract was signed and a check for the down payment was mailed on Tuesday, May 6th. State and County permits have been issued and abutment design work has been completed. The new bridge is highway rated HS-25 and is warranted for 75-year life expectancy. Terms of the four-year agreement call for 47 monthly payments of $6,228.

 

 

BRIDGE INSTALLATION CONTRACTOR SELECTED
The MIRCC Board of Directors approved a motion on May 10th to contract with Interwest Construction to assemble and install the Canyon Falls Bridge when the kit arrives from Acrow. Estimated cost for this Time & Materials contract not to exceed $160,000. Construction can begin as soon as funds are available.
MIRCC SOLICITS BRIDGE LOANS
The MIRCC Board of Directors voted unanimously on May 10th to solicit $10,000 unsecured loans from individuals for four-year terms at 5.75% interest to fund Canyon Falls bridge. MIRCC has hired Your Balance Sheet NW to provide invoicing and accounting services for our 460 property owners. YBSNW is owned and operated by Brenda Ware and Holly Kopra; their staff are experienced professionals ideally suited for the complex accounting needs of this diverse community. MIRCC STRIVES FOR BETTER COMMUNICATION
Melissa Bailey has volunteered to add phone numbers and email addresses to MIRCC’s database to facilitate better communication with MIR property owners. Current Excel files include taxpayer name/address for each parcel as provided on Snohomish County’s web site but members may add phone numbers and email addresses by contacting MJBailey69@gmail.com
BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETS FIRST SATURDAY EACH MONTH
Monthly business meetings of the MIRCC Board of Directors are held the first Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m. at the Index Fire Station. The 15-member board meets to conduct the business of the corporation and guests are always welcome. The next meeting is scheduled for June 7th.
